Toward the north, or toward a point nearer to the north than to the east or west point.

ANORTHITE n.
A mineral of the feldspar family, commonly occurring in small glassy crystals, also a constituent of some igneous rocks. It is a lime feldspar. See Feldspar.

A feldspar closely related to orthoclase, but triclinic. It is chiefly a silicate of sodium, potassium, and aluminium. Sp. gr., 2.57 -- 2.60.

Distorted vision, in which straight lines appear bent.
ANORTHOSCOPE n.
An optical toy for producing amusing figures or pictures by means of two revolving disks, on one of which distorted figures are painted.
ANORTHOSITE n.
A granular igneous rock composed almost exclusively of a soda- lime feldspar, usually labradorite.
ENORTHOTROPE n.
An optical toy; a card on which confused or imperfect figures are drawn, but which form to the eye regular figures when the card is rapidly revolved. See Thaumatrope.
EPANORTHOSIS n.
A figure by which a speaker recalls a word or words, in order to substitute something else stronger or more significant; as, Most brave! Brave, did I say most heroic act!

reen shrub (Hibiscus -- formerly Abelmoschus- moschatus), of the East and West Indies and Northern Africa, whose musky seeds are used in perfumery and to flavor coffee; -- sometimes called musk mallow.
