LACUNA n.
he circulation of the body fluids, or the cavity or sac, usually of very small size, in a mucous membrane.
MANYPLIES n.
tomach of ruminants; the omasum; the psalterium. So called from the numerous folds in its mucous membrane. See Illust of Ruminant.

An enlargement or protrusion of the mucous membrane of the lachrymal passages, or dropsy of the lachrymal sac, dependent upon catarrhal inflammation of the latter. Dunglison.
MUCOSITY n.
The quality or state of being mucous or slimy; mucousness.
MUCUS n.
A viscid fluid secreted by mucous membranes, which it serves to moisten and protect. It covers the lining membranes of all the cavities which open externally, such as those of the mouth, nose, lungs, intestinal canal, urinary passages, etc.
MYCODERMA n.
This production differs from the zoöloea stage of bacteria by not having the intermediary mucous substance.
NYMPHA n.
Two folds of mucous membrane, within the labia, at the opening of the vulva.
OEDEMA n.
A swelling from effusion of watery fluid in the cellular tissue beneath the skin or mucous membrance; dropsy of the subcutaneous cellular tissue. [Written also edema.]
PAPILLOMA n.
A tumor formed by hypertrophy of the papillæ of the skin or mucous membrane, as a corn or a wart. Quain.
PITUITARY a.
Secreting mucus or phlegm; as, the pituitary membrane, or the mucous membrane which lines the nasal cavities.
POLYPUS n.
r, -- found in the nose, uterus, etc., and produced by hypertrophy of some portion of the mucous membrane.
PROCTOCELE n.
Inversion and prolapse of the mucous coat of the rectum, from relaxation of the sphincter, with more or less swelling; prolapsus ani. Dunglison.
RENNET n.

The second stomach of ruminants, in which folds of the mucous membrane form hexagonal cells; -- also called the honeycomb stomach.

A serous or mucous discharge, especially one from the eves or nose. I have a rheum in mine eyes too. Shak. Salt rheum. (Med.) See Salt rheum, in the Vocab.
RHINITIS n.
Infllammation of the nose; esp., inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nostrils.
SCHNEIDERIAN a.
