PHENOLPHTHALEIN; PHENOL PHTHALEIN n.
white or yellowish white crystalline substance, C20H14O4, formed by condensation of the anhydride of phthalic acid and phenol. Its solution in alkalies is brilliant red, but is decolorized by acids. This reaction, being very delicate, is used as an indicator.
PROPANE n.
naturally dissolved in crude petroleum, and also made artificially; -- called also propyl hydride.
QUINOYL n.
A radical of which quinone is the hydride, analogous to phenyl. [Written also kinoyl.]

composes into sulphuric and hydrochloric acids, and is hence called also sulphuric chloranhydride.
TANNIGEN n.
compound obtained as a yellowish gray powder by the action of acetyl chloride or acetic anhydride or ordinary tannic acid. It is used as an intestinal astringent, and locally in rhinitis and pharyngitis.
TARTRELIC a.
Of, pertaining to, or designating, an anhydride, C4H4O5, of tartaric acid, obtained as a white crystalline deliquescent substance.
