DUTY n.
r customs; excise; any sum of money required by government to be paid on the importation, exportation, or consumption of goods.
GAMBIER n.
nt, and, under the name of Terra Japonica, is used for chewing with the Areca nut, and is exported for tanning and dyeing.
GINSENG n.
American (A. quinquefolia) has largely taken its place, and its root is now an article of export from America to China. The root, when dry, is of a yellowish white color, with a sweetness in the taste somewhat resembling that of licorice, combined with a slight aromatic bitterness.
