SPATTER-DOCK n.
The common yellow water lily (Nuphar advena).
UNDOCK v.
To take out of dock; as, to undock a ship.
WATER DOCK n.
A tall, coarse dock growing in wet places. The American water dock is Rumex orbiculatus, the European is R. Hydrolapathum.
ADIAPHORIST n.

APRON n.
A platform, or flooring of plank, at the entrance of a dock, against which the dock gates are shut.

A place for mooring vessels in a dock or harbor.
BLOODWORT n.
A plant, Rumex sanguineus, or bloody-veined dock. The name is applied also to bloodroot (Sanguinaria Canadensis), and to an extensive order of plants (Hæmodoraceæ), the roots of many species of which contain a red coloring matter useful in dyeing.

Chrysophanic acid (Chem.), a yellow crystalline substance extracted from rhubarb, yellow dock, sienna, chrysarobin, etc., and shown to be a derivative of an anthracene. It is used in the treatment of skin diseases; -- called also rhein, rheic acid, rhubarbarin, etc.

CURTAIL DOG n.
A dog with a docked tail; formerly, the dog of a person not qualified to course, which, by the forest laws, must have its tail cut short, partly as a mark, and partly from a notion that the tail is necessary to a dog in running; hence, a dog not fit for sporting.
