Completely crystalline; -- said of a rock like granite, all the constituents of which are crystalline.

Partly crystalline; -- said of rock which consists of crystals imbedded in a glassy ground mass.

Not crystallizable; incapable of being formed into crystals.

Crystalline on a fine, or microscopic, scale; consisting of fine crystals; as, the ground mass of certain porphyrics is microcrystalline.

Distinctly crystalline; -- used of rocks. Opposed to Ant: cryptocrystalline.

Half crystalline; -- said of certain cruptive rocks composed partly of crystalline, partly of amorphous matter.

A white crystalline solid, from ammonia by replacement of an equivalent of hydrogen by acetyl.

A crystalline ketone, CH3COC6H5, which may be obtained by the dry distillation of a mixture of the calcium salts of acetic and benzoic acids. It is used as a hypnotic under the name of hypnone.

A crystalline substance, C9H13O3N, obtained from suprarenal extract, of which it is regarded as the active principle. It is used in medicine as a stimulant and hemostatic.

A semipellucid, uncrystallized variety of quartz, presenting various tints in the same specimen. Its colors are delicately arranged in stripes or bands, or blended in clouds.

A white crystalline base, C3H7NO2, derived from aldehyde ammonia.

A mineral of the feldspar family, triclinic in crystallization, and in composition a silicate of alumina and soda. It is a common constituent of granite and of various igneous rocks. See Feldspar.
