SPECIALLY adv.
For a particular purpose; as, a meeting of the legislature is specially summoned.
SPONGE v.
To cleanse or wipe with a sponge; as, to sponge a slate or a cannon; to wet with a sponge; as, to sponge cloth.

allowing it to straighten when in place; -- often with in, out, etc.; as, to spring in a slat or a bar.

An act of the legislature of a state or country, declaring, commanding, or prohibiting something; a positive law; the written will of the legislature expressed with all the requisite forms of legislation; -- used in distinction fraom common law. See Common law, under Common, a. Bouvier.

SUSPEND v.
operation or effect; as, to suspend the habeas corpus act; to suspend the rules of a legislative body.

An assembly or council having civil authority; a legislative body. It hath in solemn synods been decreed, Both by the Syracusians and ourselves, To admit no traffic to our adverse towns. Shak. Parent of gods and men, propitious Jove! And you, bright synod of the powers above. Dryden.

The bottom or lower portion of a member or part, as a slate or tile.
