LIGNITIC a.
Containing lignite; resembling, or of the nature of, lignite; as, lignitic clay. Lignitic group. See Laramie group.
LIMICOLAE n.
A group of shore birds, embracing the plovers, sandpipers, snipe, curlew, etc. ; the Grallæ.
LINGULA n.
d related genera. See Brachiopoda, and Illustration in Appendix. Lingula flags (Geol.), a group of strata in the lower Silurian or Cambrian system of Wales, in which some of the layers contain vast numbers of a species of Lingula.

A metallic element of the alkaline group, occurring in several minerals, as petalite, spodumene, lepidolite, triphylite, etc., and otherwise widely disseminated, though in small quantities.

A genus of acalephs, having a bell-shaped body with eight groups of short tentacles around the margin. It attaches itself by a sucker at the base of the pedicel.

A more extensive group of acalephs, including both the true lucernarida and the Discophora.

A kind of granite from Luxullian, Cornwall, characterized by the presence of radiating groups of minute tourmaline crystals.

An extensive group of insects which are parasitic on birds and mammals, and feed on the feathers and hair; -- called also bird lice. See Bird louse, under Bird.
MEGASTHENE n.
One of a group which includes the higher orders of mammals, having a large size as a typical characteristic.
MEGASTOME n.
One of a group of univalve shells, having a large aperture or mouth.
MEIONITE n.
A member of the scapolite, group, occuring in glassy crystals on Monte Somma, near Naples.
MELANOCHROI n.
A group of the human race, including the dark whites.
