SLASHER n.
A machine for applying size to warp yarns.
SLIT-SHELL n.
Any species of Pleurotomaria, a genus of beautiful, pearly, spiral gastropod shells having a deep slit in the outer lip. Many fossil species are known, and a few living ones are found in deep water in tropical seas.

Any marine gastropod shell of the genus Apporhais having an elongated siphon. See Illust. under Rostrifera.
SPUR-SHELL n.
Any one of several species of handsome gastropod shells of the genus Trochus, or Imperator. The shell is conical, with the margin toothed somewhat like the rowel of a spur.

One who makes a blustering show of valor or force of arms. Shak.
SWEEPWASHER n.
One who extracts the residuum of precious metals from the sweepings, potsherds, etc., of refineries of gold and silver, or places where these metals are used.

A concretion in the joints of the bamboo, which consists largely or chiefly of pure silica. It is highly valued in the East Indies as a medicine for the cure of bilious vomitings, bloody flux, piles, and various other diseases.
