NITROSO- n.
(. (Chem.) A prefix (also used adjectively) designating the group or radical NO, called the nitroso group, or its compounds.
NITROSYL n.
the radical NO, called also the nitroso group. The term is sometimes loosely used to designate certain nitro compounds; as, nitrosyl sulphuric acid. Used also adjectively.

Having a valence of five; -- said of certain atoms and radicals.

The hypothetical radical, C5H11, of pentane and certain of its derivatives. Same as Amyl.

Odd; not even; -- said of elementary substances and of radicals whose valence is not divisible by two without a remainder. Contrasted with artiad.
