STOPE n.
A horizontal working forming one of a series, the working faces of which present the appearance of a flight of steps.

The horizontal direction of the outcropping edges of tilted rocks; or, the direction of a horizontal line supposed to be drawn on the surface of a tilted stratum. It is at right angles to the dip.

A horizontal band in a building, forming a part of the design, whether molded, projecting, or carved, or in any way distinguished from the rest of the work.
STRINGER n.
A long horizontal timber to connect uprights in a frame, or to support a floor or the like.
